Updates from Unbound Recovery

Now Offering Medical and Medication Management for Eating Disorders

A woman with shoulder-length brown hair and glasses smiles while standing indoors. She wears a light pink blouse and stands in front of a colorful wall with plant designs, embodying hope and positivity on her journey of recovery from eating disorders.

At Unbound Recovery, we are committed to delivering comprehensive, collaborative care for individuals with eating disorders. As part of that commitment, we now offer specialized eating disorder medical management and psychiatric medication support through our Psychiatric Nurse Practitioner (PMHNP) and Family Nurse Practitioner (FNP).  We would like to welcome to the Unbound Recovery team, Judith Bunting, DNP, APRN, FNP-C, PMHNP-BC.This service is not intended to replace primary care providers. Instead, it is designed to support the unique medical and psychiatric needs associated with eating disorders, working in close partnership with existing providers.

What This Service Includes

Our family and psychiatric mental health nurse practitioner offers:

  • Higher Level of Care Coordination.
  • Medical monitoring related to eating disorder symptoms (e.g., vitals, labs, weight stability, EKG monitoring).
  • Psychiatric medication evaluation and ongoing management for eating disorder-related concerns such as anxiety, depression, or OCD.
  • Weekly or as-needed follow-ups for higher-acuity cases.
  • Ongoing communication with the client’s outpatient dietitian and therapist to ensure a unified approach to care.

What This Service Does Not Include

  • We do not provide primary care.
  • We do not treat unrelated health conditions (e.g., colds, routine physicals, chronic disease management).
  • We strongly encourage all clients to maintain an active relationship with a primary care physician (PCP).

How We Collaborate With Primary Care Providers

We highly value the role of each client's PCP and are intentional about working in partnership with, not in place of them.

If the primary care provider prefers to manage the medical care related to your eating disorder, that’s absolutely welcomed—we do not require clients to meet with our nurse practitioner. However, if your PCP prefers that we monitor aspects such as labs, vitals, and stability, we are happy to do so and will:

  • Share regular updates, lab results, and Eating Disorder treatment plans with the PCP
  • Escalate concerns or refer back to the PCP when needed
  • Collaborate closely to ensure continuity of care and appropriate transitions if medical complexity changes

Whether our provider is taking the lead on eating disorder-related medical management or simply providing consultation support, collaboration is at the heart of Unbound Recovery’s model.

Who This Is For

This service may be helpful for:

  • Clients needing weekly or frequent medical monitoring
  • Individuals starting or adjusting psychiatric medications related to their eating disorder
  • Families navigating the complexities of adolescent eating disorder treatment
  • Clients whose primary care provider has requested additional, specialized medical support
